Rules of Procedure

Perekliinik is your family healthcare centre, and our goal is to provide you with good, safe and smooth medical care. To ensure the best possible care, you may sometimes be seen by a substitute doctor instead of your regular family doctor. The family nurse will collect initial information about your health concern and, if necessary, perform a preliminary assessment. This helps us better assess your request and plan an appropriate appointment time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

General Information

  • To communicate with Perekliinik, please use the e-Perearstikeskus self-service environment. For urgent matters, please call us.

  • When booking an appointment, you will speak with a family nurse who will ask about the reason for your visit and, if necessary, request additional information. This helps us find a suitable appointment time and ensures that we can address your concern as effectively as possible during the visit.

  • If the family nurse is unable to answer the phone immediately, we kindly ask for your patience. We will respond to every request as soon as possible.

  • To ensure the security and confidentiality of your health information, health-related matters cannot be handled by e-mail.

  • You can receive health advice 24 hours a day by calling 1220 – the Family Doctor Advisory Line.

Appointment Procedures

  • Please always book an appointment with a family doctor or family nurse in advance via the e-Perearstikeskus self-service environment or by telephone.

  • Perekliinik does not operate on a walk-in basis. This allows us to ensure that every patient receives their scheduled appointment and the necessary attention.

  • If you arrive late for your appointment, the doctor or family nurse may have to provide the service for a shorter period of time or, if necessary, may be unable to see you.

  • If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please let us know as early as possible via e-Perearstikeskus or by telephone. This allows us to offer the available appointment to another patient in need.

  • Please enter the doctor's or family nurse's office only after you have been called in.

  • 30 minutes are scheduled for each patient appointment. If you have several health concerns, please let us know when booking the appointment so that we can allocate sufficient time.

  • A separate appointment must be booked for each family member.

  • Filming, photographing or otherwise recording activities taking place at Perekliinik without permission is not permitted. This is necessary to protect the privacy and confidentiality of both patients and employees. In the event of unauthorised recording, Perekliinik reserves the right to contact the law enforcement authorities if necessary.

Referrals, Specialist Referrals and Tests

  • The need for examinations and laboratory tests is determined by the family doctor or family nurse based on your symptoms and health condition. If you wish to undergo tests for which there is no medical indication, you may use private paid testing services, for example at Synlab.

  • A referral or e-consultation to a specialist is prepared by the family doctor when there is a medical indication.

  • If the specialist decides to continue monitoring and treating you, the specialist will arrange a further follow-up referral if necessary.

  • The validity of a referral depends on the type of referral. When issuing a referral, we will provide additional instructions regarding the procedure or examination where necessary.

  • More information about laboratory testing can be found here: [laboratory testing].

Ordering and Renewing Prescriptions

  • Repeat prescriptions can be ordered by telephone, via e-Perearstikeskus, or by using the repeat prescription request form.

  • Repeat prescriptions are normally issued within 5 working days. Please keep track of the validity of your prescriptions and contact us well in advance if you need a prescription renewed.

  • In the case of an acute illness, the necessary prescription will be issued on the same day if the doctor has determined that it is medically necessary.

  • You can check the status of your prescription renewal requests in the Health Portal (Terviseportaal).

  • A single prescription is valid for 60 days (2 months), while a three-time repeat prescription is valid for 180 days (6 months).

Sick Leave and Care Leave Certificates

  • If you need a sick leave or care leave certificate, please inform us on the day you become ill via e-Perearstikeskus or by telephone. Please note that a sick leave or care leave certificate cannot be opened retrospectively.

  • If you become ill during the weekend, your family doctor can open a sick leave or care leave certificate if you have contacted the 1220 Family Doctor Advisory Line, visited a hospital emergency department/on-call service, or called an ambulance and have been issued a corresponding certificate. The certificate must be submitted to the family doctor within two days.

  • When opening a sick leave certificate, a contact date will be agreed upon, on which you must provide an update on your health condition by telephone or via e-Perearstikeskus. Please observe the agreed dates and contact us yourself.

  • If you do not contact us on the agreed date, we will terminate the sick leave certificate, in accordance with the law, as of the agreed contact date. No separate notification will be sent within three days.

  • If you become ill abroad, please contact a local healthcare provider as soon as possible so that your illness can be documented. The certificate issued by the foreign doctor, together with a certificate from your employer, must then be submitted to the Estonian Health Insurance Fund (Tervisekassa). More information: Tervisekassa – Illness Abroad.

  • When you become ill, a family nurse will contact you as soon as possible, assess your health condition and provide advice on initial and home treatment. If necessary, the family nurse will arrange a suitable appointment with a family doctor or family nurse.

  • The issuing of a sick leave or care leave certificate must be medically justified.

  • More detailed information about sick leave and care leave certificates can be found in the Riigi Teataja (State Gazette).
